About the founder

Nick Brogden leads the company as Founder and CEO of Earned Media, acting as Chief SEO Strategist and primary client contact. Nick provides clients with personalised and expert SEO guidance that aligns with the industry’s best practices.

Over the past 12 years, Nick has played a vital role in Australian SEO. From crafting compelling content, leading successful campaigns, regular appearances and guest hosting Australian Network TV programme, Kochie’s Business Builders, and lecturing at universities to mentoring at INCO Australia and participating as a distinguished panellist for Semrush’s Global Marketing Day, his influence is both impactful and global.

Before founding Earned Media, Nick held senior SEO consulting roles at two of Australia’s foremost digital marketing agencies. During this time, he led impactful SEO campaigns for various brands, including medium-sized businesses, SaaS, fintech and proptech startups, and publicly listed companies.

Challenge

Goal 1: Increase top 3 position rankings for commercial intent keywords that drive traffic to the /services/ section of the website. Goal 2: Achieve revenue target of $300,000 in new development projects won from organic leads outside of Newcastle in the 12-month period

Solution

We focused on obtaining rankings quickly via content marketing by targeting commercial, evergreen queries with highly optimised content and an aggressive off-site SEO strategy to increase topical authority of the site for ‘web’ related queries.

Result

Goal 1 Result: 260% increase in keywords ranking in position 1 - 3 the total number of keywords in position 1 - 3 increased from 3.1% to 8%. Goal 2 Result: This goal was exceeded by 56%. Sales hit just over $469k in web project revenue won since Aug 2022 from organic search outside of Newcastle.

Challenge

Now in year 4 of our journey, we have gathered many learnings and recognised the impact SEO has had on our early success. Organic is our biggest traffic driver and highest converting channel. In addition to our always-on SEO work with Earned Media, we wanted to engage Nick and his team on a project to identify areas for improvement that would hopefully result in a notable organic growth spike. Within this time, we also agreed to 'double down' on offsite link-building to improve our DR by EOY.

Solution

This 6-month project was broken into key milestones, delivered by Earned Media. This included in-depth keyword research, a full site architecture review, delivery of insights and actionable recommendations, and reviews after actions were taken to assess their impact. Additionally ongoing high quality link building was built to pages across the site to increase DR.

Result

Since implementing these SEO improvements, we have clearly seen a spike in organic traffic as well as DR improvements (we exceeded our goal of achieving a DR of 33-35 by EOY, hitting 40 in December). We are also now seeing Gathar index for 105,000 additional searches per month (over 500 new queries) since these SEO recommendations were actioned.

Result

288% increase in organic traffic in twelve months. 84% growth in overall share of voice across relevant commercial organic terms. Website authority increased by 20% through offsite link building putting the client in the top 0.4% of websites in the world for authority.
